How "Combat Level" works

When you run around in Runescape, and see other players running around, the level you see in conjunction with their player name is that player’s combat level. When someone asks you what level you are without specifying a skill, that’s generally what level they’re talking about. And in the Wilderness, it’s your combat level that plays in to who can and cannot attack you as you wander about in the wild.
Combat level is raised along with your regular skills, but it is not a specific skill of its own like mining or smithing or fishing - it’s actually something that a number of different skills all add up and create. The following skills all contribute to your Combat Level rating:
Attack
Strength
Defense
Prayer
Magic
Ranged
So, if any of these skills are low, they will bring down your “combat average” which makes up your Combat Level.
Note, that “pure” players may therefore have quite high levels in any one or two skills but their Combat Level would be deceivingly low for how much they could hurt you in the Wilderness with those specifically-trained skills.
Never underestimate your opponent, and never let anyone taunt you into the Wilderness with them. Play smart!

I have been playing for only a month and have an over all lvl 41. I love the dummies that run never the Gobbie village that say “You want 10 k gold? Follow me” How dumb are these kids that do this? I work security in a casino and I have to interrogate thiefs and I can spot obvious lies all the time. I actually had one kid tell me I didnt know what I was talking about when I pointed out his obvious flaws that him and his buddy were trying to tell me to get me into the wilderness. I damn near pee’d my pants with laughter.

Not necessarily, if your combat is melee or magic based your range won’t bring it down, it just won’t affect it.k
all of u guy changs u password 1 a mouth so peaple will get on your name plz change it my is stollen plz chage it
I hope u get this but those peaple that go and say if u want 10k follow me. some peopl acually follow them. know i am no good person but if i feel like saving them is it a good thing?
combat also works by taking ur attack, strengh, and defemse up level by level. Like my attack is 60, strengh is 57 and defense is 56 so my combat level is 70 that is pretty much how it works
how can i get my levels up faster?
depends on what ur combat is, my little combat “guide” is what i use for training my melee.
3-10 Cows
11-20 Barbarians
21-30 Scorpions
31-50 Guards
50-60 Deadly Red Spiders
60+ Lesser Demons

Barbarians-Barbarian Village, on the way to falador from varrock
Scorpions-Dwarven Mines, Near Falador
Guards-Black Knights Fortress, Varrock, and Falador

Lesser Demon-Also in Karamja Volcano

Actually the 10k isn’t the only way that people can draw you out into the wilderness. Even though friends who you know well will ask you if you want to go pk with them in the wildy, never trust the “come join our team” messages at edgeville or varrock. I accepted an invitation and followed them to set up “camp” at the bandit camp. I thought it’d be a good idea since I could make some anchovy pizzas when we were there. However, out of safety i only wore my mith chainbody since I didnt want to lose anything valuable. When we were there I was jumped by the 5 lv 30s. I killed one before I got slaugthered. Fortunately, I didn’t lose anything. All i brought was a mith chain, power ammy, and rune 2h. However, not all people are as lucky as I was so don’t join any clans you can’t trust and as a rule of thumb, Just dont go pk with strangers.
hi i hope you get this i’ve been playin runescape for over two years and i think that if you raise all those things str att def prayer magic and range won’t that skrew you up because if you raise them all you won’t have any money or free time because you would be worring about your lvl and “bringing it down”
i have been playing a grand total of 3 weeks i think this is a great game and the things you are doing are also great my son turend me on to this game because i was sick of ever quest and all the expensions you had to buy just telling you that this is a great game for peps and thxs for the effort

Everybody iv’e been playing for a while and im a warrior/mage and it saddens me to see noobs fall for scams so as u mature in ur lvl’s help them out because u would want the same and remember u were once a noob too. Also there is a new scam were people to u to buy their spade because if u dig by christmas tree u get presents…..not too bright. This is only during christmas time and they will try to charge 4k for it. DONT DO IT! And to the people tryna raise ur lvl just fight and fight and fight and switch between what type of attack u use like…stab, block, and lunge, as they affect defense, strength, and combat. If ur a mage then just mine for ess and use it for urself dont sell it. Why do u think these high lvl mages buy ess from you? They know wut do to. Wait till ur like them. Ok that’s it.
yeah, yeah i was kille donce doing that i had NO POSSIBLE CLUE where i was going. The dude waz suposed to bring me to a bank but noooooo. i got kille dout of my armor and weapons mand valuable (which i didnt have many at the time)
I just avoid the wilderness altogether, I’m not a big fan of the PKing aspect…
i have been playing runescaoe 4 about 1 year now and i am lvl 48 but…… im not the fighting type and i do quests and i only have 3 more quests to do!!!!!! oh yeh and trick lvl 3s into goin to the wildy…. its fun
i am a good persob tht can make easy money a long as i have these things :my rune pikaxe 32k,my hammer1gp and my beloved ores

I am concerned, my character on runescape is a range character (uses bows etc) im just asking to know if i level up ranged and defense… if i leveled up strength and attack.. would that lower my range or do anything to my combat level? i know wearing armor like steel etc reduces range.
i would also like to know if the type of arrows afect the damage or is it just their chance of disapearing?
hehe i used to play runescape and i was quite a scammer myself lol…but then i just gave all the stuff back i got…then i quite playing.. ive noticed that once you start playing its hard to get off of it. its like smoking…in a way…anyways ya cya and thanks
Lol if somebody says follow me i got 10k or something i would just follow them, but if they walk up high in the wild i’ll stop following…
Anyways.. My RS account is over lvl 100 and ive pked a lot of things like: Guthix plate and rune trim legs…
how i pked it? well this is when i was lvl 70+ i was with my friends, we chased this guy in full rune skulled from Greater Demons to lvl 25 wild, then we shared the rune, for some reason this guy in Guthix plate and Rune legs (t) then we started to attack him, and then he ran up to lvl 30 wild i was like “OMG THIS IS MINE” before he died he said “I am god i never die!” and then i got the kill i was like pickin up all the stuff then running back down and not sharing them! then i said “Haha i got away!” then i sold all the stuff
Clan War: this is when i was lvl 110+ there was a clan war at Greater Demons, so i went to edgeville got all my mage gear and went up to Greater Demons. When i got there i was like “wow lots of people…” then i started maging this guy who was getting piled, he started running while dying at the same time so he died… got 4 rune sets …. killed another guy who was getting piled… got 1/2 rune set. Suddenly! i was getting piled by 4 Stupid idiots, i was dying i kept clicking on my food when i reached 2 hp they thought i died, so they ran back! i thought i was dead but then i was like “WTF!!! OMG!!” i ate then i was on full hp i ran into the spot where people were fighitng and started picking up lobsters then i started maging and got more rune until i have no more space! then i ran back down and banked.
and another way 2 lvl up 1 or 2 lvls is dragon slayer if u have lobbies u can beat him elvarg is easy
i have been playing for almost 2 years and all i do is pk. This is the best way to get money but you need to have good stats. i advise useing pure in something and nothing else. like mage or range. i am looking for people to help me build my char. and my cousins into a clan. add beary69 and beary68 to your freinds list and talk to them.
seriously people, dont trust any1 about free stuff unless they just give it 2 u. i got perm banned because a idiot said “giving away acc.” i said ok. put me on ur freinds list and give me ur PASS.KEYWORDD:PASS. So he reported me!!!!!!! o ya and can some1 tell me how 2 take pictures of ur carachter?
if they do say ill give 10k take it go to the bank and put everything important in it and then follow the person into the wild.even if he dous kill you,you will still make money
since everyone likes talking about the wilderness aka:the wildy.when a sign comes up saying you are entering this area just walk the other way.never go here unless you are looking for a fight!and the levels at the bottom of the screen you see when in the wild are the range of levels that can attack you.example:level 1 one lv higher - one lv lower then you can attack you.(this does not count for monsters in wild only other players)
If someone wants to give you their account it might seem like they are being freindly at first. But acturally they are hoping that you will change the password of their account to the same password as your main account. After this the other person just has to recover his account find out the password and try and log on as your main account.
i tried to humor one odf the “follow” scammers but he logged out when he saw it was all lvl50s against his lvl20
runescape is an enchanting place to play and know alot of expieriences it is fun and a great way to raise your character and meet friends arounf the world
yes i have playing for 3 months it may sadden you to know in the course of one week i lost a rune armor set from a scam. the second i lost when i died. the third i lost to another scam. im sadd but now i have another set the last scam some one changed how much the were givin me on the are you sure window of the trade form 300k to 30k for a full rune set. Ouch!!!!!!!! Remember th old saying if it sounds to good to be true, dont listen.
ive been playin runescape 4 2 months and im lvl 85 i just fell for that trick follow me and ill give u 5m of course i followed but i brought my best armour and wepon they were lvl 90 and lvl 80 with a whip and ddp they kept swithcing weps d scim ddp whip doing loads of dmg unfortunatly i killed 1 and i was almost done with the other but he switched to mage and there i was in lumbridge dont fall for what i did its sad p.s. i was wearing full mystic and elemantle battle staff using ancient magics i kicked there butt
Fyroknight, not everyone can go in the volcano on Karajama. You have to have part of the dragon slayer quest because that’s how you find the passageway through the volcano.
i was following a friend in the wilderness once we said no magic just fist fighting and we went into the wilderness and suddenly he uses magic and im dead i lost all my armor ( full steel body armor, long sword, kite shield and a lot of money ( 100k 9 it was the reward for the winner ) ) don’t be scammed
I’ve been playing runescape 7 years..
i know the game really well scammers dont exist..
its your fault if you accept the 30k for full rune
or if you following them into the wild thats stupid because a screen pops up saying “DANGER”
only thing i hate about rs is the autoers it wrecks the game for everyone.

I have finnaly figuired out how to survive in the wildy. And i have been playing for 4 mounths. ok any way you need a rune 2 hander and food lobster or better ……..
